Classification method
According to materials
Ceramic insulator: With the longest history and strong weather resistance, it is bulky and brittle.
Glass insulator: Its self explosion characteristic facilitates fault detection and does not require regular zero value testing.
Composite insulators: lightweight, excellent anti pollution flashover performance, but prone to aging and require regular maintenance.
According to structure and purpose
Suspension insulators (disc-shaped/rod-shaped): commonly used in high-voltage transmission lines.
Post insulator: supports the substation busbar and equipment.
Needle/Butterfly Insulators: Suitable for low voltage distribution lines.
According to tolerance ability
Breakdown type (such as needle type): The breakdown voltage is lower than the flashover voltage.
